HandyDBA

The HandyDBA® is Alan Jeskins-Powell.

Over 20 years of database administration experience covering Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, MySQL and PostgreSQL.

Oracle versions up to 11g, includes RAC, Dataguard and RMAN, databases from a few GB to 8TB.
SQL Server versions from 2000 to 2008 R2.
Postgres versions up to 8.3
DB2 versions 9.1 and 9.7.2

All predominantly on Unix (Solaris, AIX, Linux, HPUX) but also on Windows (server 2003, 2008).

Available for those jobs that you would like to do but are too “small”, the jobs that always get left until later.

  • Automate that regular job that you always do manually.
  • Setup automatic monitoring of your databases without OEM or any other agent.
  • Script that job you were going to do manually.
  • Fill in for absent staff.
  • Research – obscure errors, upgrade details, server certification, patch details.
  • Installation, upgrades, patching.
  • Database review and documentation.

My speciality, automation - paticularly on Unix (shell) and Windows (Powershell).

This site would not be possible without the work of a great many organisations and people to whom we are extremely grateful, in particular (but not limited to):

  • Dokuwiki
A standards compliant and simple to use Wiki which does not require a database.
