NAS

Not strictly an operating system but I just needed somwhere to keep notes about NAS.
Looking into NAS for home/small office use.
There are several (that I know of) open-source or community NAS distributions

  • Common features
    • Web based admin.
    • will install and run in 512MiB
    • supports ZFS
    • cannot grow ZFS from GUI - in theory this can be done from cli
    • won't install in less than 1GiB
    • web interface supports https
    • no support for ZFS
    • based on Open Solaris
    • very good support for ZFS
    • supports deduplication, compression, grow pool
    • Excellent ZFS support (no surprise there)
    • Web UI available if you install Napp-It
    • There are several forks of Open Solaris

None of the browser UI I've looked at implement maintenance of all ZFS features but they all seem to be available from command line which suits me.
